Since 2004, my Dad and I have gone to a Giant’s baseball game in August each year. Keeping with tradition, we went to the game yesterday against the Colorado Rockies. Last year we took the Amtrak to Emeryville, then a bus into San Francisco, but we decided that we would drive this time.
On our way there, just before Travis AFB exit, we were involved in a three car accident. The traffic had been slow-and-go for a bit, and we were just about to start moving again when I heard a car impact another car somewhere behind us. Then about a second later the car behind us hit our car. Luckily there were no injuries. It took about 40 minutes from the time that my Dad called the CHP to when we were released. Funny coincidence, the guy that hit us was going to the game too.
When we finally got to the game (after some confusion on where to park) the game was already in the 6th inning, tied at 1 a piece. We were able to witness an argument between the Rockies Manager and the home plate umpire which led to the ejection of the Rockies manager.
This next bit is about the ejection, feel free to skip it if you don’t really care. The argument lasted for a couple of minutes based on a play where the batter was being pitched-out. The batter leaned across the plate to try to hit it (trying to follow through on a hit and run play) and ended up hitting the catcher’s glove hand with the bat. The baserunner was sent back to first and the batter was called out (for stepping across the plate). The manager had a good agrument calling it catcher interference, but was ultimately ejected after a comment that made about a blown call (requested a check on a swing by Barry Bonds, but was denied, clearly went around, called a ball) back in the first innning.
The game finally ended in the 11th inning with the Rockies coming out on top, 2-1.
At the last two games I went to, I had bought a hat. So, to keep with my own tradition, I went and bought a warm-up jacket just before we left. It’s a very warm jacket, and was well worth $150.
Freakishly long post, I know, but I had a lot to say. We didn’t take a camera, so I couldn’t just show things.
Dude… bummer about the accident. Was that in Dad’s truck or your car? Any damage? If it was Dad’s truck I doubt it, your car may be another story depending on the speed. At least you weren’t at any kind of fault and nobody was hurt.
To bad that the giants couldn’t pull one out for you either
And that better be a nice jacket
Dad was driving Mom’s car. It is a nice jacket, very warm. Fleece on the inside, except for the sleeves, and it constricts on the wrists and waist to keep the heat in. It’s the jacket you always see the players (pitchers usually) wear when in the dugout (or bullpen). The coaches where them all the time too during night games.
