Time for a new car.

Recently my car has been acting up. For a long time now the tachometer has had electrical issues (not showing any reading) and more recently, my car has been making a high pitched sound, like that of one of those New Year’s rolling whistles. I tried to get my dad to listen for it one day after I got home, but my car was being stubborn about it’s malfunction and didn’t speak up. Well, today on my way home from school, my car went into “limp” mode. Basically it wouldn’t get out of second gear. So all the way home I’m listening to this high pitched, almost squealing, noise going fifty miles per hour (I took the back road instead of the freeway), while my car was at 4500 RPM.

I had my brother take it for a ride so he could see what I was talking about. When he got back he said it was working just fine. Well, later, after my dad got a new speed sensor for it, he took it for another drive. On his way home he finally heard the noise I had been talking about. He left the engine running while he got my brother to listen to it, and they both agreed that the transmission is pretty much shot.

So I had two options, I could either pay around $1500-$2000 to get a new transmission and hope this eleven year old car doesn’t have any future problems, or I can just look for another car. I’ll be car shopping a bit this weekend.
