How I Spent My Spring Break

How I Spent My Spring Break

Week One

So this part of the post won’t be very long. My Dad’s aunt visited us for about three days while on their way through to another relative. My Dad last saw her at her wedding when he was ten-years-old (my Dad is now 60), then she moved to Alaska and has been living there since. This was pretty much the only relative on my Dad’s side that none of us had met before, including my Mom.

The first night we had a nice sit down dinner with everyone there (very rare that the whole household is home for dinner at the same time). The next night we all went to Olive Garden and my aunt joined us. When I left for work the next morning, I heard them start up their RV, so I thought that they were leaving, since my Dad only took off two days I figured they wouldn’t stay if there was no one home to entertain them. Well I come home to find the RV still in the driveway, they were heading out with my parents to eat at Tortilla Flatts. I opted not to go with them this time because 1) I had just gotten home from work and 2) I felt that I had had enough company for the week.
That was Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday I went to the tennis courts to hit the ball like I usually do on Mondays and Fridays. I was approached by the local tennis instructor that I had seen there during the last summer. She told me about this group of players that usually play at all times of the week. She also gave me the email address of the person who started the website for these local players, as well as the password to see the list of local players (both of which I had forgotten). I wasn’t too seriously interested at the time since I was able to get people from work to play so I didn’t really pay much attention to what she was saying.

Week Two (Spring Break)
Well most people had spring break this week, but since I am not taking any classes, I can’t really say that I got a spring break this year (not like I ever go anywhere for spring break anyway). I worked this week just like every other week. Not much really happened this last week, again no Magic, I haven’t really heard anything from Kyle since Wednesday, he didn’t even reply to my last message I sent him that day. Hope to hear from him soon.

On Friday I went back to the tennis courts as usual. This time, there was another man there who was by himself using a ball machine, so after a while I asked him if he would like to play a few games with me. Now I knew before I even asked him that I would probably lose to him, but I didn’t do so bad that I never won a point. One of my service games actually went to about five or six deuces. Before and after the game he had told me about this website he made for local players to play a ladder format or find other players to play with. I didn’t realize it until he handed me his card that this was the guy that the local tennis instructor had told me about the week before.

So I took this as some kind of sign that I should check out this site. After sending out a few emails to some of the lower end ladder participants (the site says it’s better to work your way up rather than try to jump in leaps and bounds). One had recently gotten injured and wouldn’t be able to play for a while, another is getting knee surgery tomorrow and will be out for about a month. Both seemed eager to play when they can though. A third person I contacted seemed like we could get a match going (maybe as early as this Friday) so I may be placed on the ladder (hoping), but at the very least, I’ll be able to play with some different people.
