More Magic, More Tennis

Well Kyle finally went to play Magic this Wednesday, so it was nice to see him after a few weeks. We had five people there so we did the king of the table again, but this time, the loser at the low table sat out a game. I ended up being that person at one point (after playing a very long game against Kyle), so I decided to try to make a deck around my Liliana planeswalker (a very rare card that will give me control of every creature that has died so far this game). I ended up making it into a Blue/Black Milling deck. Basically that means that it makes the opponent remove cards from his or her library and put them into the graveyard. A person can lose if he or she is unable to draw a card when told to. So I can either win by removing all the cards in his or her library, or getting Liliana to resurrect all the creatures and have an army to attack with.

Cody, Kevin and I played tennis on Friday. Since there was going to be three of us, they wanted to play 2 vs. 1. I figured it would be a good workout, so I agreed, it would also potentially help my tennis game. I also need to get back to playing in the local tennis ladder. I only played one game for it. I’ve been contacted by two people already who also sent the email to other players, so I never responded. I while back I bought some ankle weights to use for tennis practice, but I never brought them to the courts, I guess I didn’t want people to kind of look at me weird. I’m going to the courts on Wednesday to play with someone else at work, so maybe I’ll use them then.

After Tennis with Cody and Kevin, I went to Kragen’s to get some brake pads for my car, while I was in the area, I stopped at the local Magic card shop and got some booster packs. I decided to come back later that night to check out the weekly tournament they do called Friday Night Magic. I decided to use my new Milling deck (read above) to see how it did against people who play a lot. I lost all three of my matches, but I was able to win two matches. One was a fluke because the guy I played got mana screwed (not enough mana to really do anything). The other game I won was kind of cool. I actually have two planeswalkers in my deck (again, read above), the special ability of the second one I have sends twenty cards to the graveyard from the opponent.

I was able to get that played early, and after a few turns I was almost ready to use his ability, but he was killed just before I could use it. Later in the game I pulled out Liliana, and was able to keep her out long enough to use her ability. So there we were, about fifteen minutes into our game, I was down to two life, he had a deck that gained life, so he was at around 69 or so. I brought back all the creatures in both graveyards (all through out the game I was killing creatures and sending cards to the graveyard left and right with a different card) so I gained control of three of my creatures that caused the most damage to his library. One of the creatures I got from him made all my other creatures indestructible too, so I had an invincible army. The next turn I took out the rest of his cards and finished the game.

Even though I lost the other two games of that match, I now have a better idea of what to do with my deck to make it stronger, I need to be able to prevent damage to save my planeswalkers so that I can use them to accomplish the goal of this deck, as well as more card to destroy creatures in play.

In closing I just want to mention that I have been working on my reviews section. I have almost all the navigation set up, but I’m going to change it a little bit so I don’t have so much code to deal with in the future. I also want to have more reviews up before it goes live. I just finished playing The Bigs (I know, an older game) so I’ll be adding a review for that this week.
