So I have a lot of video games in my personal collection that I want to be able to make a review for. While I realize that some of them I won’t be able to get to, I now have a plan on what to do with the games that I have reviewed. Once I realized that I end up going back and playing the same games I’ve already beaten before, it occurred to me that this was a bad habit for a game reviewer. Keith found a great serviced that lets you trade your video games with other people, and all it costs you is $1 per game you receive, plus shipping on games you give.
Basically you trade your game to someone else going through this website. You receive points based on how new the game is, and what packaging it’s in, either “disc only,” “disc and manual,” or “complete package,” which includes the disc, the manual, and the original case it came in. There are different version of some games to account for the different consoles, and whether it’s a special edition or not.
You can later use your earned points to receive games from other people, at this point, you spend a trade point to complete the transaction. This trade point is how the service makes money. It’s a $1 fee for using the service that is only required when you are receiving a game. In essence, you are getting fairly new games, and in decent to good condition, for $1 each. After you finish the game, you can go back and trade it to someone else, and get the same amount of points you spent on it, if you didn’t hold onto it for a long time. Not a bad way to go about getting games.
I’ve been using Gamefly to try to work through my reviews, but I would hold onto a game for a long time and the monthly subscription was costing almost as much as the game itself would. Goozex is the new service I’m using, and it has no monthly subscription. Unfortunately, my brother has an account that is linked to our home address, which means I can’t have a seperate account. Since he recently moved out, I was hoping that he could change the address and I’d be able to get my own account. Just my luck though, the mailbox at his girlfriend’s apartment isn’t big enough for the games, so the address has to stay the same.
The one benefit to this shared account is that I can playtest all the games that arrive first and get a little mini-review. My latest arrival, and the first one that I requested, was Blitz the League II, so that will probably be my next review.
I like these kinds of services. It’s about time that they had one for games since they have had Paper Back Swap and Trade A DVD for awhile now.
