Thanksgiving ‘09

Like every year, we had Thanksgiving in Pleasant Valley at my aunt’s house. There was the typical servings of two turkeys, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and rolls. This year, though, we didn’t have as many people as usual. In fact, almost one whole side of the table ended up being empty. My family was sitting at a separate table with my Grandpa. They were discussing cutting back on beer and drinking when my Grandpa makes a comment, “I started drinking O’Doul’s [non-alcoholic beer]. Tastes like shit.” It gave anyone close enough to hear a good laugh.

After our dinner (or lunch, since it was at 1:00), it was time for some games. I played a little magic with my cousin, then taught him how to play Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne. Then I got Kyle to join us for a game of Magic. I gave him my best deck to use, and focused all of my attention on my cousin. Kyle was unfamiliar with all of the cards in the deck since he hasn’t played in a couple of years, so I gave him time to get things going. This soon became an error in judgment on my part.

I had almost finished my cousin by making him run out of cards to draw from, while my brother had everything set up to finish us both off in the same turn. Unfortunately I missed out on playing our traditional game of Rummikub.
